An Elephant bull with really good ivory is generally considered Africa's top hunting trophy. Trophy quality is determined by the weight and beauty of the tusks. The classic hunting method is by tracking on foot; early mornings are spent looking for fresh bull tracks - once a good track has been found, the real work starts until the Elephant is encountered.

Penetrating a herd or getting into close quarters with a bull to determine trophy quality and taking a good bull can be the finest sport in Africa, or for that matter, in the world. Elephants have extremely sensitive smell and hearing, so wind direction is essential when stalking. Shots usually have to be taken at close range due to their habitat.

Diurnal and nocturnal. Gregarious; herds consist mainly of a cow and her descendants. Bulls form temporary male herds or live alone except to mate. Elephants show aggression by lifting its trunk and head, spreads out its ears and trumpets, or kicks up dust.

You can also hunt with any 40 or even 50 caliber rifles such as .450, .458, .416, .500, etc. with 400 to 500 grain solid bullets would definitely be a good choice.
