Identification

The African wildcat is similar in appearance to a domestic cat except that it is larger and has longer hind legs. There are two colour phases, namely iron gray and tawny grey and they are marked with vertical stripes, but these can be quite faint. The most characteristic feature is the red-brown colour on the back of its ears, over the belly and on the back of its legs. They vary in length from 46 - 66 cm, and weigh 2.4 - 5.5kg.

Habitat -

The African wildcat can be found throughout Africa in all habitats where there is enough cover for protection and a good supply of food.

As a general rule, cat’s hearts sit back further than other animals and the heart and lungs are usually the best place for shot placement. The best Caliber to use for hunting African Wildcat is any small caliber such as .223 or .22.
