Identification

The golden wildebeest is a rare variation/mutation in colour from the blue wildebeest. These beautiful antelope have a specific golden colour, often with dark brown vertical stripes across the chest. They are strong and muscular with a golden beard and mane and round, curved horns and pointed ears. A mature bull weighs approximately 300 pounds and stands up to 50 inches tall at shoulder height.

Habitat -

Golden wildebeest thrive best in open plains, and will often be found grazing on the savannah.

Hunting golden wildebeest in Africa with less than .270 caliber is not recommended. On your golden wildebeest hunt, the flat shooting .300 magnums are the best option.

When hunting golden wildebeest, aim to position yourself for the side-on shot. Place the shot up the back edge of the front leg and aim approximately four inches above the point of the elbow. This particular shot will take heart and lungs.
