The klipspringer is a small and stocky antelope. Ewes are slightly larger than the rams. Only rams have short horns, which are ringed only at the base. Klipspringer have smallish rounded ears positioned far back on the head, and with noticeable dark inner markings. The coarse-haired coat is variable in colour with shades of grey, yellow, brown or red, with marked white underparts, chin and lips. A prominent feature is the large, black pre-orbital gland. The klipspringer has an average shoulder height of 22 inches and average weight of 40 pounds.

Klipspringer have a restricted habitat preference, namely to very rocky environments of mountainous areas and koppies. This allows this nimble-footed antelope to escape from its predators.
When hunting klipspringer in Africa, the best caliber to use is the .22 centerfire. The .243 Winchester, any of the 6mm calibers, and the .270 are great options as well for klipspringer hunting.
Klipspringer hunting shot placement can be different depending on bullet use. Expanding bullets call for a shot that is aimed behind the shoulder. With solids, keep your aim point farther forward. If a frontal shot presents itself, place it low in the chest area.
