Nyala hunting techniques can be compared to that of hunting kudu. The best approach is to ambush the trophy nyala close to water holes and feeding areas. When hunting nyala, tracking and pushing the nyala can cause him to become curious and stop to survey the hunter. Not only is nyala hunting incredibly exciting, but a nyala trophy is one of the most beautiful animals that any hunter could want. Somerby Safaris will take you on an epic adventure to hunt nyala. With our outstanding and specie-rich hunting areas and our experienced and skilled professional hunters, hunting nyala in South Africa will not leave you disappointed. Nyala hunting with Somerby Safaris is conducted in the Limpopo, Eastern Cape, Western Cape, North West and Zululand provinces of South Africa.
The handsome slate-brown shaggy coat of the nyala is marked with white vertical stripes and spots on the flanks. Bulls appear more charcoal-grey in colour. The bulls have long inward curved horns (650 mm) and a white chevroned face. They have a ridge of long hairs along the underparts, from behind the chin to between the hind legs, they also have a mane of thick, black hair from the head along the spine to the rump. The nyala has an average shoulder height of 47 inches and weighs in at approximately 200 pounds.
Limpopo, Eastern Cape, Western Cape, North West and Zululand provinces of South Africa.
The nyala inhabits dense lowland woodlands and thickets.
Nyala hunting calls for a .270 or any of the 30 magnum calibers. As always, a high quality bullet is recommended.
When hunting nyala, aim straight up the foreleg, about one third into the upper body to hit the highly effective heart or lung shot.
