Hunting oribi is a very specialized hunt, with the oribi forming a part of the elusive Tiny Ten. The trophy oribi is one of the larger members when it comes to hunting the Tiny Ten. This is more of a collector’s hunt and Somerby Safaris specializes in oribi hunting for the experienced hunter looking to add to their growing collection. The area that the oribi hunt will take place on is often mountainous, so some walking is involved. Your oribi hunting experience will be by spot and stalk. We have only the best areas for hunting oribi and our professional hunters have years of experience in hunting these small and often elusive antelope. Somerby Safaris conducts oribi hunting in the Eastern Cape and Zululand provinces of South Africa.
This gracious little antelope has a long, slender neck and legs. Ears are oval. The coat is rufous-brown with white under parts. The tail of the oribi is black. Situated close to the inner corners of the eyes are two large pre-orbital glands. Only the rams have short, straight horns, which are ringed at the base. The oribi stands at approximately 23 inches and weighs on average 32 pounds.

When hunting in South Africa, trophy oribi can be found open grassveld or floodplains in well-watered areas, with or without scattered trees and shrubs. Found especially in areas with short grass and isolated patches of tall grass for shelter.
For a successful oribi hunt, select a caliber firing a bullet of at least 120 grains. The 257 Roberts, 25-06 Remington, various 6.5mm's, and the 264 WinMag would all be fantastic choices. The .270 and 7mm's will also be sufficient.
When hunting oribi, make use of the high heart/lung shot. Aim straight up the foreleg about one third into the body.
